syedbalkhi.com new domain indexed and ranked in just days

Those who have read all the posts on this blog know that I registered this domain after Syed Balkhi challenged me in twitter to rank #1 in Google for his name.

I took up the challenge because it would seem that someone interested in the ranking of his name, would register the .com of his name if it was available. The domain was available so I registered it late at night on April 23rd.

It wasn't till early morning on the 24th that I put up any content. Now early morning on the 29th, the site is indexed and showing the Google SERPs.

It has actually been showing in the SERPs for a couple days, but just some of the pages, not the home page. This morning the home page is in spot #2 behind balkhis.com, Syed's blog.

Balkhis.com was registered in January 2008, and I'm sure has plenty of links to it. I think it is pretty amazing to get the #2 spot in under a week with a brand new domain and not very many links to it.

Update and Why Twitter

There's been some shifting of positions and appearance of pages in syedbalkhi.com in Google. The indexed pages of syedbalkhi.com seem to be taking a #3 spot while the other posts have moved down. Curiously, the home page of syedbalkhi.com hasn't showed up in the index yet.

I'll do another screen shot when I see it showing up. While it is not clear I can take position #1 within a week or without a lot of effort what is clear is that

2 days to rank #2 in Google for 'Syed Balkhi'

About two days ago, Syed Balkhi make a challenge in twitter for 'anyone' to rank #1 in Google for his name. After I saw that no one had registered the domain syedbalkhi.com I decided to give it a try. I mean, that should rank #1 without any effort at all?

I also posted a short blog with a link to the new domain. This morning I noticed that blog post is ranking #2 in Google for Syed Balkhi. I guess it really isn't that hard to rank well with his name.

I may never rank #1 for Syed Balkhi, but I think getting a #2 ranking in Google in less than 2 days is an pretty good accomplishment!

In a future blog post, I'll outline the plan I'd use if I was really serious in getting a #1 ranking for his name or any thing short phrase.
